She connects, I switch to overcooked, and it doesn't work right. We tried me with controller and her with keyboard: and my controller kept adding players to the game and we couldn't remove the extras.

If you still have this issue, the solution is, once your controller can be used as a keyboard (ie if you set up triangle to be "a", you can type 'a' using the triangle) you need to make sure that your controller is deactivating in steam and that when you launch overcooked it isn't recognised.
